MY PROFILE

The home page gives you a glimpse of my family and me. Here in my profile are a few more details. I was born in Salem, Oregon and grew up in several towns in Oregon, Idaho, Utah, and Colorado. In high school I was voted, "Most Talented." (Yes, I love to brag about that). After high school I went on a service mission to Buenos Aires, Argentina. It was a great learning and growing experience.

Many years later I taught water skiing at Blue Bell Sports Camp in Pennsylvania for 5 summers. Since I was a U.S. History teacher I decided to load up the truck and move the family to live near Valley Forge, Pennsylvania for a few years. In Pennsylvania I worked at a maximum-security prison teaching job skills (interviewing, job searching, resumes writing). I love the look on peoples face when I tell them about that job because I am short and skinny, not the image of what you would picture for someone working at a prison. Later I was the manager of Zwahlen's Ice Cream & Chocolate Company. It had, and still has, the best tasting ice cream and chocolate in the country. What a great job, to be able to eat luscious chocolate and ice cream all day!! I actually gained a few pounds, which is a miracle for me.

Most of my life (15 years now) I have taught high school (World History, U.S. History, Geography, Speech/Communications, Spanish, and Alternative Education). In 2008 I earned a Master's Degree in Education. I have worked with the Boy Scouts for over 12 years and am an assistant Scout Master now. I love to travel and I love public speaking. I have spoken to youth and adult groups all over the country.

So enough about me. There are two others that are traveling with me, Jim and Skyler. I have something about each one of them also.

SKYLER'S PROFILE

(This is me, Willard, talking again) About 26 years ago while at college I was eating lunch in the cafeteria when a guy named Chris came and set down next to me. Although it was the first time that we had ever met, we began talking as if we were best friends. He and his wife Mandy are two of the greatest people in the world. Last year my wife and I were explaining to them my plans to ride a bicycle across the country and their 17-year-old son Skyler said that he really wanted to go. As much as I wanted him to go I thought that it was just a passing idea of a young boy's mind and pretty much decided that he would give up on the idea.

A few months later we went to their house again and Skyler told us what he was doing to prepare and to get sponsors, etc. I realized that he really was serious. This will be a great experience for Skyler and he could very well be the youngest person this year to ride a bicycle across the U.S.

So here is some information about the infamous Skyler...

Skyler is a junior at Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah. He loves biking and clogging.  He is also very excited to have his own adventure this summer. He plans to study medicine and become a general surgeon (I hope he doesn't need to practice on us during our trip). But most important of all he does not have a girl friend.
